Michael Yelton

Michael Yelton was born in 1950. He has been interested in buses since the age of 10 and joined the OS in 1974. He is widowed with three adult children.

He practised as a barrister in Cambridge from 1973 until 1998, combining this from 1977 to 1981 with being a Fellow of Corpus Christi College and Director of Studies in law there. He was then appointed as a Circuit Judge, sitting in Essex and later in Cambridgeshire. He also sat from 2000 as a Deputy Judge of the High Court. In 2015 he was appointed as a member of the Court of Appeal of St Helena, and has retained that position since retiring from other posts in 2020.

He has written extensively on the history of buses (primarily on pre-deregulation municipal operations) and on ecclesiology and church architecture. He hopes that the OS will continue to flourish and that he can assist with the problems which are bound to occur, especially those with a legal dimension.
