UNIVERSITY GREENWEEK STUDENTS BOOST CLARET NUMBERS BY 148%

Reading Buses

Buses ran free as Reading Buses teamed up with the University of Reading for their annual greenweek activities to promote evening travel.

This was the second year that the company had undertaken such activity which has seen an increase of 148% of students taking advantage of  their claret 21 buses.  They run through the night to take students to and from events in Reading town centre.

Said Reading Buses Marketing and Communications Manager Jake Osman:  “We work closely with the University throughout the year to help staff and students travel sustainably to and from the campus.

“Greenweek challenges people to think about how their everyday choices can impact the environment so we think it’s always a good fit to be involved.

“We also wanted to make students more aware of our evening and night time offering on claret 21 which runs through the night, whilst at the same time encouraging them to try the bus if they haven't already done so.

“This year nearly 400 students and staff travelled for free, up by 148% on last year. They all took advantage of buses on the claret 21 University route running through the night.

“Students taking part in greenweek carry out various studies, from recycling to switching off lights, or simply using the bus instead of the car.

“It mirrors our own ‘planet Reading’ initiative which encourages our employees to think about how they can make choices that help the environment,” Jake added.
