Weekend Tour to Cheshire – Glasgow departure.

Stuarts of Carluke will provide the vehicle for this tour, which will depart from Cowcaddens Road, Glasgow on the north side of Buchanan Bus Station at 09:00 on the Saturday. We propose to head directly to the Widnes area, where we hope to visit Selwyn’s at Runcorn and Halton Borough Transport’s premises in Widnes, before travelling to the nearby Premier Inn, where accommodation is notably cheaper than in Chester, while still being convenient for local amenities. However, my research shows that hotel prices generally have risen by more than expected in the last 12 months and the most reasonably priced suitable accommodation I have been able to find will cost £77 per room for the night (£38.50 per person if sharing). A full breakfast is available for £8.99 per person and there is also a meal deal (dinner in their Brewer’s Fayre restaurant as well as breakfast) for £23.99 for those who wish. Details of the hotel & its menus can be found at

http://www.premierinn.com/gb/en/hotels/england/cheshire/widnes/widnes.html .

On the Sunday, we plan to visit Carvers at Ellesmere Port, Arriva and Stagecoach, both in Chester, before heading to the Blackpool area, with potential visits to Ribble Vehicle Preservation Trust at Freckleton, Lancastrian Transport Trust, Catch 22 Bus and Blackpool Transport, though there is unlikely to be time to visit all of these. There will also be a stop for lunch in Blackpool. We should arrive back at Cowcaddens Road, Glasgow by 20:00.

The fare will be £40.00, payable at the time of booking. Those wishing to take part should complete the booking slip, which can be found in the 'Scottish Branch - Bulletins' section of the OS website and return it to the Scottish Branch secretary not later than Monday 11th April, 2016, together with a remittance of the sum of £40.00.

Cheques should be made payable, please, to “The Omnibus Society”.
