Andrew Braddock will address the October 2017 LHRG meeting on his career in transport under the title 'Mis-spent youth to transport career in seven easy moves!'.

The meeting will be held at 18.00 for 18.30 on Thursday, 12 October 2017 in the ground floor meeting room at TfL, Palestra, 197 Blackfriars Road, SE1 8NJ (opposite Southwark tube station, buses 45, 63, 100).  

Andrew Braddock's transport career began with British Rail in 1964 as a Surveyor Trainee but he moved to London Transport in 1965 in a similar capacity.  Taking up a new rôle with the Bristol Omnibus Company in 1968 his time in the bus industry spanned both the creation of the National Bus Company in 1969 and its privatisation in the late 1980s.  He was Personal Assistant to NBC's Regional Chairman (South West & South Wales) from 1971 to 1973 when he became the Bristol company's District Traffic Superintendent in Swindon.  From 1976 to 1984 he was at London Country - initially as Area Manager (South) and from 1979 as Operations Manager for the whole "Polo mint" then in 1984 he became Traffic Manager at Alder Valley prior to the break-up of the larger subsidiaries of NBC, becoming Managing Director of “The Bee Line” on privatisation.  He returned to LT in 1991 as Head of the Unit for Disabled Passengers and retired early from Transport for London, where he was Head of Access & Mobility, in 2003 to establish  “A B O U T”  (Andrew Braddock On Urban Transport or About Bus, Overground, Underground, Tram) as an independent consultant.

In addition to a reducing consultancy workload (prior to reaching 70 in 2018) Andrew Braddock is Chairman of the Light Rail Transit Association (LRTA) and of the Promotions Group of industry body UKTram, as well as being Vice-Chairman of the UK Bus Driver of the Year Competition and a member of both the Bus & Coach Forum of the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport (CILT) and the Committee of The 55 Society.
