Oral History and its Importance
The June 2023 LHRG meeting will be addressed by Jen Cavanagh, a specialist in collecting oral history who works with the London Transport Museum.
The meeting will be held at 18.00 for 18.30 on Thursday, 15 June 2023 at TfL, Palestra, 197 Blackfriars Road, SE1 8NJ (opposite Southwark tube station, buses 40, 63).
Many LHRG members and others who study aspects of London’s transport development have built up personal archives over the years and are also familiar with museums and associated archives such as the LT Museum and the London Bus Museum. Equally important but perhaps less familiar to many of us has been valuable work to interview and record the memories of those who have served in or studied the transport industry. Tonight’s speaker will draw on her experience with the LT Museum and the value of that experience in assisting groups and individuals to identify and develop potential oral history candidates, as a complement to the written word that has hitherto been their most common means of research.
