Community bus operation has come to the fore in recent years as larger companies find it increasingly difficult to meet the needs of passengers in rural areas and imaginative solutions have to be found.
Cuckmere Comunity Bus is a charitable Company Limited by Guarantee based in Berwick, East Sussex. It was something of a pioneer in the field and has been running for more than 40 years. It currently runs a fleet of eight 16-seater minibuses on more than 25 timetabled services each week. The company is run entirely by volunteers, including 50 fully trained drivers. Philip Ayres has been its Managing Director since 1989.
This meeting will take place at The Abbey Community Centre, 34 Great Smith Street, Westminster, London SW1P 3BU at 18.00 for 18.30. Great Smith Street is served by the 88 bus; it is a short walk from the Westminster Abbey stops on routes 11, 24, 148 and 211 and from Westminster or St James's Park Underground stations.
