The Omnibus Society President for 2023 is Anthony Delaine-Smith, Managing Director of the highly-respected and characterful Lincolnshire independent operator, Delaine Buses of Bourne. Delaine is one of the longest-established operators in the country. It can trace its origins back to 1890 and its main daily services from Bourne to Peterborough, Stamford, Spalding and Grantham were all established by 1923.
Anthony will present a brief history of his personal journey within the industry, the history of the company and how it got to where it is today, the current challenges it faces and a view of what the future may hold for Delaine Buses and the Independent Sector in general.
We are breaking with our usual tradition of holding the Omnibus Society Presidential Address on a Tuesday evening as part of the London meeting programme. The 2023 Presidential Address will be on a Saturday afternoon, which we hope will make it easier for more people to attend.
It will take place at Abbey Community Centre, 34 Great Smith Street, Westminster, London SW1P 3BU, which is conveniently sited close to Westminster Abbey and Parliament Square, at 14.00 for 14.30.
Great Smith Street is served by the 88 bus from Parliament Hill Fields to Clapham Common; it is a short walk from routes 3, 11, 12, 87, 159 and 453 and from Westminster Underground station (Circle, District and Jubilee Lines).
