SWW Tour from Bath to Shepton Mallet and Cole

Open to all

Retracing the 56A along the Somerset & Dorset

Bath Tramways service 56A was introduced in 1966 as a bus replacement service following the
closure of the Somerset & Dorset Railway. The bus route ran from Bath to Shepton Mallet and
Cole, ambling around the lanes to the south of Bath to serve as closely as possible the stations that
had lost their trains.

We plan to retrace the route from Bath to Cole as far as possible, on a field trip utilising an appropriate vintage vehicle that will start in Central Bath at 1100 and then call at Odd Down Park & Ride at 1115.

A lunch stop will be taken in Shepton Mallet, before returning via Frome, giving potential passengers from the south the opportunity to park in that town earlier in the day and catch the D2 bus (or the train) into Bath.
